VERWELKOMINGSBRIEF

We the educators, you as parents and our lovely children work closely together for 4 years to mould your child into a productive and well balanced individual. We encourage continuous and positive communication between you and the school. As principal I follow an open door policy and want to encourage parents to make full use of every opportunity to meet and socialize with educators and myself. Think of us as ordinary citizens like yourself with a true love and commitment towards children.

You are most welcome to become part of a very active Parent Committee whose main drive is to generate funds to uphold the quality education already in existence at our school. You will make new friends, meet educators and soon you will be a De Vrije Zeer in heart and soul! As Parent Committee member you meet per term to organize dances, Stay Awake Competitions or even a Trolley Dash in a local supermarket to name but a few.

We have a strict code of conduct and you will receive and sign a copy when you enroll your child. This disciplinary code is fair and punitive measures are correctional and do not lose sight of our educational values. As you value your  child and your important role as a parent who wants only the best, we share your vision and responsibility with you. If we find that this role is not fulfilled properly we will intervene.

School fees play a major role in the smooth running of a well planned budget. It is important to pay school fees timeously so as to avoid major problems for the school and yourself in the long run. To remain a dynamic school we need you to advise us of new ideas to improve our quality education even further. You are always most welcome to share your views with us.

ADMISSION POLICY

PRE-AMBLE

The admission policy of a public school is determined by the Governing body of the school in terms of section 5(5) of the South African School Act, 1996 (No 84 of 1996). The policy must be consistent with the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (No 108 of 1996), the South African Schools Act. 1996 and applicable provincial law. It is thus expected of each learner, as well as each parent/guardian to comply with the following admission requirements.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS - AGE REQUIREMENTS

In terms of section 3(4)(i) of the National Education Policy Act, 1996 (27 of 1996) the age requirements are set out as follows: The statistical age norm per grade is the grade number plus 6.

Example:
Grade 4 + 6 = age 10
Grade 5 + 6 = age 11
Grade 6 + 6 = age 12
Grade 7 + 6 = age 13

PERMISSION TO LEAVE THE SCHOOL BEFORE OFFICIAL SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

You are thus taking the onus upon yourself to remove your child from school. It is your own responsibility to ensure that all work missed will be completed.  Unfortunately no work will be handed to your child in advance. No codes will be assigned to your child for assessment opportunities missed. According to our absenteeism system, your child will be recorded as being absent. The total number of days absent is taken into account as a factor when discussing Progression at the end of the year.

CLUB ARK

As part of our community care projects, we offer a food scheme, called Club Ark, at school.

We offer this service free of charge, but plead with you to only register your child if you really need it.  This is not a cafeteria service, and is not intended for those learners who are too lazy to pack lunch!
