GOODWOOD  SCHOOLS  VALUE  PROJECT

A big challenge in schools today is the lack of values which lead to a breakdown of order and discipline in schools. It has been proven in countless behaviour management models that the biggest contributing factor is a lack of social skills and moral values amongst many of our learners. Teaching social skills and basic values  has become an integral  part of our education curriculum at school. This is a vital component in preparing our students for life (during ) and after school, but it impacts on how much time is left to teach the academic curriculum. Most schools are busy with some manner of values programme (which forms part of the life skills curriculum). In our case we have:

  • The Circle of Courage
  • Moral values lessons in the mornings
  • Revision and reinforcement of classroom and school rules and basic values during “intercom rules”  time;  to mention but a few.

The Goodwood Schools Value Project aims to reinforce the same important values throughout the schools in the community and the community at large.  The idea is that the same message is spread throughout all schools and reinforced during all phases of the learners’ school career. 

Core Values that have been identified

Pride and Loyalty:  Purple  

Respect:  Geel 

Caring:  Red 

Fairness:  Orange 

Trustworthiness:  Blue 

Responsibility – Commitment:  Green 

The idea is to spend 2 months on each value and to associate a particular value with a particular colour as well as to identify activities (current and new) which could reinforce these values and teach the learners the importance and benefits of upholding these values. 

To launch the value of RESPECT we shall be asking our learners to place a yellow poster on Respect in the post boxes of some of their neighbours / households in their community. 

ANY ASSISTANCE / SPONSORSHIPS / DONATIONS  ARE MOST  WELCOME as well as ideas and suggestions from our parents.  Parents can also support us by reading the circulars / asking your children what happened at school, spending quality time with your children. You could also identify your own “Value / Rule for the Week” at home. It takes a lot of time and effort now, but we will reap the rewards for many years to come.
